Girls (TV 2012)
This new show on HBO honestly portrays the life of all twenty-somethings. It does not seek to ideally portray our generation, but deals with the relevant issues that young women and men in the 21st century go through. Each episode is crafted with wit, rawness, and just enough weight to matter.

Winter’s Bone (2010)
Jennifer Lawrence gives one of the most nuanced, raw, and gritty performances I have ever seen from a young actress. Lawrence plays Ree, a resilient teenager who takes care of her younger sister and brother while simultaneously on a journey to find her drug dealing father so that she can save her family’s house from being stripped from her. This chilling thriller sucked me into the bleak forests of the Ozark Mountains and showed me a portion of the United States that I have never seen before.
